What's the best tool for a free, hosted, private wiki?

I%26#039;m looking for a free, hosted, wiki solution to host my small company%26#039;s intranet site. There is sensative details in there so it can%26#039;t be available to the public (I%26#039;d like it password protected to read it).

I%26#039;ve been looking around and trying a few applications and I love WetPaint overall, but they don%26#039;t offer privacy and seem to have no interest in offering that option. PBWiki is ok, but I need something very simple, and it also needs to be able to place server side include code in there and PBwiki just comments out all that code, so it%26#039;s useless.

What else is out there that you guys would recommend?

It needs to be:

- Password protected for everything (No one should be able to read it and edit it unless they have the password)

- Free, or very cheap

- Hosted on the Web

- Able to handle HTML code such as pasting server side includes without making them disappear

- Incredibly easy to use. (My staff isn%26#039;t the most technically skilled, nor am I.)

Thanks for your help

What%26#039;s the best tool for a free, hosted, private wiki?

If it%26#039;s for internal use by your company and you want a hosted solution, I suggest you go for an enterprise solution, not a consumer one. Wetpaint, Wikia, etc are consumer wiki hosts and whilst Wikia is great for large community-focused projects, they don%26#039;t usually offer private hosting for companies.

Socialtext.com, Jotspot.com, and confluence.atlassian.com are the ones you need to look at. I%26#039;d recommend Socialtext - it%26#039;s open source and they%26#039;ve just released Socialtext 2.0 which has some great features that you can see in this screencast: http://s3.amazonaws.com/socialtext2.0/so...

What%26#039;s the best tool for a free, hosted, private wiki?

if it%26#039;s an intranet you should be hosting it yourself for maximum security.

Other Replys:Strongly suggest you don%26#039;t host sensitive information outside your company%26#039;s firewall, especially on a free server. That%26#039;s just asking for trouble.

Other Replys:Try JotSpot.

It is not free but cost you $10 per month for 10 users.

It provides good features.
